Listening to Your Body - Balancing holistic health, reflexology, aromatherapy and Knowing When It’s Time to Call the GP!

There’s something deeply comforting about taking your health into your own hands.

The slow rituals.

The herbal teas.

The essential oils diffusing quietly in the background.

Reflexology sessions that help you reconnect, ground, and breathe a little deeper.

Aromatherapy blends that feel like small pockets of calm in a busy mind.

The early nights.

The long walks where you convince yourself that fresh air is doing more than just clearing your head.

I’ve leaned into all of it lately, I always do — holistic health, wellbeing practices, tuning inwards instead of immediately reaching outwards. And for the most part, it’s grounding. Empowering, even. It reminds me that my body isn’t something to fight against, but something to work with. But here’s the thing I’m learning right now—sometimes, despite all of that care, your body still whispers (or shouts) that it needs more. And that’s where I’ve found myself recently.

After being unwell, I expected the usual trajectory: rest, recover, rebuild. But instead, the pain lingered. Not dramatically, not urgently, just persistently. The kind that sits in the background of your day, quietly shaping how you move, how you sleep, how you feel in your own skin. At first, I did what I always do. I doubled down on the “natural” approach. Stretching. Gentle movement. Heat packs. Continued Reflexology. Continued Aromatherapy. Mindfulness.

Telling myself: just give it time.

And time did pass—but the pain didn’t.

That’s the tricky part about leaning into holistic health. It teaches you patience, awareness, and trust in your body. But it can also blur the line between giving your body space to heal and ignoring a sign that you might need support. Because holistic wellbeing was never meant to replace medical care—it’s meant to sit alongside it.

So, I made the call.

And honestly? There was a moment of hesitation. That quiet voice saying, “Is this really necessary?” or “Shouldn’t you be able to handle this yourself?” But the truth is, seeking help isn’t a failure of your wellbeing routine. It’s part of it. The GP appointment felt less like handing over control and more like expanding my support system. A different lens. A trained perspective. Someone who could help connect dots I couldn’t see on my own. And now, I’ve been referred to a physiotherapist. Which feels… right. Not dramatic. Not overwhelming. Just the next step. A continuation of care, rather than a contradiction of everything I’ve been trying to do.

Physiotherapy

I’m still drinking the teas. Still using my oils. Still showing up for reflexology. Still moving gently. Still listening inward.

But now, I’m also allowing space for expertise. For guidance. For structured recovery. Because wellbeing isn’t about choosing one path—it’s about knowing when to weave them together.

If you’re in that in-between space right now—where something doesn’t feel quite right, but you’re not sure if it’s “serious enough”—consider this your nudge. You don’t have to wait for things to get worse to deserve help. Sometimes, the most intuitive thing you can do…is ask for support.
